Chemical Properties. The chemical properties of 1060 and 1095 steel are the following. Carbon, C 0.55-0.65% 0.90-1.03% Manganese, Mn 0.60-0.90% 0.30-0.50% Sulfur, S (Max) 0.050% 0.050% Phosphorous, P (Max) 0.040% 0.040%.
SAE-AISI 1060 (S58C, G10600) Carbon Steel. The graph bars on the material properties cards further below compare SAE-AISI 1060 steel to wrought carbon or non-alloy steels (top), all iron alloys (middle), and the entire database (bottom). The length of each bar shows the given value as a % of the largest value in the relevant set.
1060 Carbon Steel Katanas. 1060 Carbon Steel Katanas inherit the durability and the hardness of the steel material. 1060 Carbon Steel Katanas require more effort to produce. The edge is durable and the sharpness lasts longer. It is more resistant to corrosion and oxidation and therefore requires less maintenance processing than the 1045 Katanas.
1060 Steel Katana are popular among the sword making community because when it is properly heat treated it becomes resilient. It is quite tough and can keep its edge fairly well. This is the reason why most cheap beater swords are made of 1060 Steel. 1060 Carbon Steel Katana has the lowest practical carbon content of 0.60%..

Please also visit our 1060 Cold Drawn page. With a high amount of carbon, 1060 steel is commonly used for applications where flame hardening is utilized for surface hardness. The properties of 1060 steel make it ideal for many quench and temper heat treatment, forming and machining uses.
1060 carbon steel is a fairly basic steel with only Carbon and Manganese added to the Iron. The second pair of Numbers in the 10xx naming convention refers to the amount of Carbon in the steel. 1095 would have .95%, 1060 would have .60% and so on.
Aug 12, 2015 · I'm very excited to say that I'm a couple days away from ordering my first katana! The katana that I will be ordering is customizable, so I've been given a choice between 2 types of steel. The first that is offered is a blade made of 1060 high carbon steel, tempered and oil quenched. The second is 1095 high carbon steel, clay tempered and folded.comparison between 1060 spring & 5160 spring steel SBG ...Feb 19, 2019Windlass 1840 "Heavy Cav" Sabre SBG Sword ForumNov 02, 20171055 Carbon Steel SBG Sword ForumDec 30, 20121095 Versus T10 Steel SBG Sword ForumJul 29, 2008See more results
1060 High Carbon Steel Swords need to be tough and durable, which is why we have a selection of samurai swords crafted with 1060 high carbon steel. 1060 high carbon steel is sought after for its rigidness and flexibility, creating a durable samurai sword with a functional blade.User rating 5/5
Carbon Steel > 1060. The 1060 carbon steel is a fine-grained high carbon steel that is designed primarily for high surface hardness applications. Flame hardening produces an extremely high hardness on the surface with a more ductile core and may be used on applications requiring tough wear surfaces.

Aug 12, 2015 · 1060 can be tempered to a spring temper. They were making car springs out of 1060 and 1075 before 5160 or 9260 can out. Cold Steel uses 1055 for their swords they flex well (Yes I know Cold Steel doesn't make their own swords). Wouldn't call 1060 a modern steel it been around a long time.
